How do I get a library card?

Visit the circulation desk to fill out an application card.

Can’t get to the library? Call us at (231) 861-4565 or email [email protected]. We’ll get you set up and mail your card to you directly.

Library cards are of no cost to patrons in our service area which includes the townships of Shelby, Benona, Ferry, Claybanks, Otto, and Grant. Grant Township residents must pay a yearly fee to access full library services.  The library offers a non-resident card for a yearly fee to those outside our service area which allows access to in-house materials and inter-library loan (MeLCat) only.

 

 

 

What are the library hours?

Shelby Area District Library is open six days a week to serve you.

Monday: 9:00am-5:00pm
Tuesday: 9:00am-5:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am-7:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am-5:00pm
Friday: 9:00am-5:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am-1:00pm
Sunday: Closed

Is the library open on holidays?

Shelby Area District Library is closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day.

We close at noon on Good Friday and 5:00pm on New Year’s Eve.

If a holiday falls on a Sunday, we would be closed the next day (Monday).

Can I print from my phone on the library's public use printer?

Yes. Connect to our WI-FI and then choose one of the Konica Minolta printers.

Print copies are $0.20 per black and white page and $0.30 per color page.

Does the library have a fax machine?

Yes, the library has a fax machine for patron use. The fees are $1.00 per page to send a fax and $0.20 to receive a fax.

Do you have a meeting room that can be reserved?

Yes. The library has a meeting room that can be reserved (free) for patron use.

Please review our Meeting Room Use Policy prior to reserving. A Meeting Room Use Application will need to be completed at the time of reservation as well.

We suggest calling to reserve the meeting room at least a week in advance to ensure availability.

Is the Local History Room open?

The SADL Local History Room is available by appointment. Please call the library to arrange a visit: (231) 861-4565

Do you have a book sale?

We always have books and other items for sale in the hallway near the front entrance.

Hardcovers are $1.00 each and paperbacks $0.50 each.

The Friends of the Shelby Area District Library also host an annual book sale in August.
