Library cards are available at no cost to patrons in our service area, which includes the townships of Shelby, Benona, Ferry, Claybanks, Otto, and Grant. Grant Township residents must pay a yearly fee to access full library services.
The library offers a non-resident card for a yearly fee to those outside our service area. This card allows access to in-house materials and interlibrary loan (MeLCat) only.
Shelby Area District Library is open six days a week to serve you.
- Monday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
Shelby Area District Library is closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day.
The library closes at noon on Good Friday and at 5:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
If a holiday falls on a Sunday, the library will be closed the following Monday.
Yes. Connect to the library’s Wi-Fi and then choose one of the Konica Minolta printers.
Print copies are $0.20 per black and white page and $0.30 per color page.
Prints and copies made on the library’s public use printers are $0.20 per black and white page and $0.30 per color page.
Yes. The library has a fax machine available for patron use. The fee is $1.00 per page to send a fax and $0.20 per page to receive a fax.
Yes. The library has a meeting room that can be reserved at no cost for patron use.
Please review the Meeting Room Use Policy (PDF) prior to reserving. A Meeting Room Use Application (PDF) must be completed at the time of reservation.
We suggest calling to reserve the meeting room at least one week in advance to ensure availability.
The Local History Room is available by appointment. Please call the library to arrange a visit at (231) 861-4565.
Books and other items are available for sale in the hallway near the front entrance.
Hardcovers are $1.00 each and paperbacks are $0.50 each.
The Friends of the Shelby Area District Library also host an annual book sale in August.
