Did you miss the August Good Buy Book Sale by the Friends of SADL?! You can still find some “good buys” before we pack up all of the leftover books. Stop by the Shelby Library Meeting Room until Sept. 6, make your selections, and please leave a monetary donation at the circulation desk. Thank you to all of the many volunteers who assisted with the Used Book Sale in August. You unpacked boxes and bags of books, puzzles, board games, CD’s, and DVD’s; sorted, re-sorted, put up and took down two tents, flyers, and signs for the sale; created book themed baskets for silent auction, helped to price, accepted monetary donations during the sale, cleaned up afterwards, released publicity notices for our local papers The Oceana Echo and Oceana’s Herald Journal, and radio station WEEH FM Oldies Station. It takes a whole team to offer this event to our community. Thank you to Kathy Sullivan, Mary Ellen Heyde, Libby Brouwer, Cindy & John McKinnon, Paula Inglis, Tiffany Haight, Connie Near, Julie McKeen, Sharon Zoller, Mary Fox, Margaret Clune, Janet Schultz, Ruth Tobin, Damian and Cael Omness, Dan Brouwer, Tom and Mary Ann Carey, Martha Bartlett, Karin Wacker, Ruth Fleming, Patti Schaudt, Gordon Parrington, Diana Clark, Carolyn Lehr. Thank you to local authors Megan Bueshel, family of Verna Aardema, Barbara Bull, and Charles Dawson for contributing toward the book themed baskets which were silent auctioned. And KUDOS to the community for donating to this sale! We raised over $2,200.00, funds that will benefit your Shelby Library.
Have you seen the new flooring and fresh stain on our Friends Gazebo? Thank you to David Schingler and his crew for donating their time to replace the flooring with the Friends of SADL picking up the cost of supplies. Next task is to stain the new floor in the spring to complete the fresh look.
Do you have unwanted Christmas decorations, artificial trees, holiday items that could be donated to the Shelby Library for our big Celebration of the Holidays Silent Auction? Please drop them off between September 18 and November 8 to be repurposed into displays by our elves! More information about the Celebration will be included in the October newsletter including volunteer sign-up, creating & donating displays, decorating trees/wreaths, baking cookies, and more.
This year the Celebration of the Holidays (formerly called Celebration of the Trees) will take place November 19 – 23.
