Notes From Friends: October 2024
Celebrate National Friends of the Library Week with us October 20th thru 26th with a special reception on Thursday, October 24 at 4:00 pm. The Shelby Library Board is providing refreshments and all are invited! Following the reception October 24, the Friends of SADL will meet at 5:00 and discuss our final fundraiser of the year, Celebration of the Holidays (formerly called Celebration of the Trees) and other business. With Halloween just around the corner, the Friends of SADL will be handing out goodies to children on October 31 from 3 – 5:00pm in the library.
If you would like to create a holiday display, decorate an artificial Christmas tree or wreath to be silent auctioned, we need you for Celebration of the Holidays! For the past several years, we have had families, classrooms, businesses, individuals, children, and even a senior day care center participate to turn our Shelby Library into a glittering, colorfully lit setting of Holiday Joy!

Entry forms are due November 12 with displays ready to set up on Monday, November 18 in the library. We also need volunteers to assist by baking cookies, helping with set up, taking bids by phone, and more by signing up at the circulation desk. The 29th Celebration of the Holidays opens for bids November 19 – 23! Our silent auction of decorated trees, wreaths, table displays, Christmas décor, and themed baskets will offer unique ways to brighten your home or share as gifts this holiday season. A table of priced items will also be available. The Silent Auction ends Saturday, November 23 at noon and winning bidders will be contacted by phone. We will feature a tree of personalized ornaments again this year with a chance to be entered in a drawing for a Holiday basket full of donated gift certificates from local merchants. For a $10.00 donation your name will be added to a tree ornament and entered in the drawing which ends December 19. Increase your chances to win by donating more!
