Notes from Friends: November 2025
This month the Friends are busy creating displays to light up our Shelby Library and hope you will join us Nov. 18 – 22 to munch on home baked cookies and view the creative talents of our community for the Celebration of the Holidays (formerly called Celebration of the Trees! Our silent auction of decorated trees, wreaths, table displays, Christmas décor, and themed baskets will offer unique ways to brighten your home or share as gifts this holiday season. You can also leave a bid with the staff or a Friend of SADL who will bid for you if you cannot attend on Saturday Nov. 22 when bidding ends at noon. Winning bidders will be contacted by phone. Tables of priced items will also be available. New this year will be $5.00 grab bags filled with holiday decorations. Beat the rush and shop with us!
Want to volunteer to help or create a display to be auctioned? Sign up at the Circulation Desk or contact me [email protected]. We will be accepting donations of new or gently used ornaments, wreaths, other holiday display items to be repurposed for sale or auction until November 10. If you want to create a display for our Silent Auction, please complete the registration form located at the circulation desk by November 10. We will display personalized ornaments again this year with a chance to be entered in a drawing for a Holiday Showcase full of beautiful items! For a $5.00 donation your name will be added to an ornament and entered in the drawing which ends December 12. Increase your chances to win by donating more!
The Friends of SADL met October 23 following a reception by the Shelby Library Board as we celebrated National Friends of the Library Week. Thank you to the Board for the delicious cake and cider. At our meeting we approved funding of $1,676.82 for book bags, fall and winter craft kits, stained glass mason jar vase supplies, supplies and refreshments for the Polar Express Family Storytime, children’s books, and prizes for a Winter Reading Challenge. All of these expenditures benefiting our library patrons would not be possible without the volunteers who donate their time, talent, and money to the Friends of SADL. As we approach the end of 2025, won’t you consider a tax-free donation? We are a 501(c3) non-profit and appreciate your generous support.
