Notes from Friends: December 2024

A huge thank you to the community for your support for Celebration of the Holidays! The Silent Auction and sales from the Buy-it-Now Table raised more than $4,000 before expenses and we expect that number to go up as more patrons enter our Holiday Drawing. 71 unique entries were auctioned. Thank you to everyone who created displays, donated items for auction, bid on the items, baked cookies, helped with set up and clean- up, or just attended and enjoyed the beautiful creations during our Celebration! Tiffany Haight and the Library Staff deserve recognition and thanks for all of their help. Thank you to The Oceana Echo, Oceana’s Herald Journal, Radio Bob at WEEH FM, Oceana County Press and local churches for spreading the word! Contributing their talent and time to create displays or donating merchandise were: Emilee Best, MaryAnn Carey, Janet Schultz, Linda Ransom, Connie Near, Margaret Clune, Linda & Dave Anderson, Linda & Heidi Andreas, Quinn Schemp, Shelby Elementary Aspire students with Heather Baffi, Karen Hammann, Ruth Tobin with Sewing Friendzies & Friendship Ring Quilt Guild, Amanda Mazur, Diane Cole, Matt Ferguson, Bob Bauer, Shelby Hometown Pharmacy, Shelby Floral & Gifts, Barbara Bull, Mark Peterson, Tammy Smith with OCCOA Our Friends House, Amanda Mazur, Rivers Ace in Whitehall. You still have time to enter the Drawing for a Gift Basket filled with gift cards and merchandise donated by local businesses. For each $10 donation to the Friends of SADL, your name is entered in the drawing taking place December 19. Stop by the Circulation Desk at the library and complete an entry form. Each basket is valued at more than $300. Businesses contributing: Images Salon, Blondies, Stony Lake Inn, Woodland Farm Market, The Farmhouse Restaurant, Affordable Auto, Pizza Factory, Birch & Blossom Florist, Deb’s Café, Weesies, Wesco in Shelby, Claybanks Pottery, Storybook Village, Stony Lake Depot, Lakeside Rehab & Family Fitness. A few items are still for sale at our Buy- it-Now table and are half off so stop by!

Looking ahead to next year’s Celebration of the Holidays, we need to restock our supply of baskets, ribbons, seasonal craft supplies, ornaments, small trees and wreaths. As you unpack your decorations and find unwanted like-new items, please drop them off at the library and we will repurpose them next year. Please store large life-like trees until November 2025 when we will take them off your hands. Thank you to our generous supporters who also donated money to Friends of SADL. You can make a tax- free donation by sending a check made out to:
