Looking for some good buys in books to finish off your summer reading? Want to stock up on puzzles, DVD’s, board games for those wintry snow days? The Good Buy Used Book Sale is coming to your favorite Shelby Library this month! Beginning the evening of Friday August 23 and Saturday morning August 24 until noon, stop by the library and purchase your selections. Four book themed baskets highlighting local
authors will also be silent auctioned beginning August 9 through the end of the book sale on August 24. We are currently accepting donations of books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, games now through August 23. Please do not donate Encyclopedias, Readers Digests, textbooks or any musty, mildewed, or damaged books! Thank you to our coordinators Kathy Sullivan, Mary Ellen Heyde, and Libby Brouwer who are also seeking additional volunteers to sign up and help with the sale prior, during, and afterwards. You can sign up at the Circulation Desk to help or contact any of the coordinators. Your help to donate books, help sort, assist with sales, and set-up will insure another great book sale for our community! This is a major fundraiser by Friends of SADL to support our library so please be generous when you purchase books.
At our July quarterly meeting, the Friends of SADL approved expenditures for the staff to attend a conference September 19 and prizes for library card sign-up. We discussed the need to repair the gazebo and garden walkway and are currently pursuing bids. As mentioned in the July newsletter, two blood pressure measuring devices are now available for use in the library with printed materials to assist patrons on monitoring your heart health. These devices were made possible by a grant from the American Heart Association. Let’s get heart healthy and make use of these monitors!
Thank you to the community for your participation and attendance at the July Open House. The Friends of SADL were there to inform you about our upcoming events and how to get involved. We need you! Contact me at [email protected] to find out how you can become a more active Friend of the Shelby Area District Library. We meet quarterly, don’t collect dues, and have fun supporting our library by sponsoring events and activities like StoryTime, Arts & Crafts, and the Exotic Animal Show. We fundraise with an emphasis on FUN! Sometimes we even meet for pizza after a meeting or event! Our next meeting is October 24 during National Friends of the Library Week.
