Friends of SADL Year in Review
In 2025 the Friends provided funds to Shelby Library for the following: Canva Pro renewal, seasonal craft kits, newsletter printing and supplies, canvas classes, DVDs, Young Adult books, stamps, soap making supplies for craft workshops, Bookish Bags, DIY Library card holders and other supplies for Library Card Sign-up month in September, supplies for various craft & art projects, shelving units, DVD display unit and slatwall display panel.
- Approved funds for Spring 2026 Garden Sidewalk replacement project.
- Donated 10% of our 2024 fundraising profits to Oceana Community Foundation.
- Donated $1000 to United Way Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
- Created bulletin boards, flyers, posters for the Library and community to promote our
activities. - Provided press release and photos to Oceana Echo, Oceana’s Herald Journal, Oceana County
Press online, WEEH FM radio, SADL and FOML Facebook pages. - Funded upkeep, new plants, supplies, for the Friends Garden and Little Free Library plantings,
Spring clean-up of grounds. - Celebrated National Library Week & National Friends of Library Week.
- Renewed membership in Friends of Michigan Libraries and attended annual FOML meeting in
April. Represented Friends of SADL with Cindy McKinnon on the FOML Board. - Paid for an ad in the Oceana Echo promoting Shelby Library.
- Funded the new Seed Library with the purchase of seeds, supplies, seed cabinets.
- Provided refreshments for meetings, Library Open House, Polar Express Family Storytime,
author events, and Library Card Sign up month. - Participated in Library Open House, Polar Express Family Storytime, and other library events.
- Purchased Friends of SADL T-Shirts and provided to members at cost.
- Held a Strategic Planning Meeting of Friends Board and Officers in Sept.
- Hosted the following events:
- Garry McKeen Gardening Workshop in March
- Garden Sale with Basket Silent Auction in May
- One Man Play in June
- Garden Party with catered lunch, awards, live music in August
- Good Buy Book Sale in August
- Celebration of the Holidays in November with Silent Auction and Buy-It-Now Tables
- December Drawing for Holiday Collection.
- Held 4 Quarterly Meetings for Friends of SADL.
Would you like to be part of our fun and dynamic Friends group?
You can become a Friend by donating your time, talent, or resources to help improve the library in any way. Volunteers are welcome to participate in our projects and fundraisers. No dues are collected but monetary donations are appreciated. Donations are used to support programs, purchase materials, and promote interest in reading and learning.
