LIBRARY SERVICE AREA
Shelby Area District Library's service area includes a population of 11,192 residents of southern Oceana County. The library has a long history dating back to 1907 when it was formed as a village library.  The District Library was organized in 1993 when the Township and Village of Shelby joined together and a library millage for 1.5 mills was passed by voters of the district in 1994.  The library also provides services to the residents of Benona, Claybanks, Ferry, Grant, and Otto Townships through annual contracts.  In 2002 the voters in Grant Township approved .25 mills for library service for four years.  Benona, Claybanks, Ferry, and Otto townships pay varied amounts to the library from their general funds.
