The Library Board of Trustees meet at 5:00 pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month except for the months of July and December. All meetings are open to the public.

LIBRARY SERVICE AREA
Shelby Area District Library's service area includes a population of 11,192 residents of southern Oceana County. The library has a long history dating back to 1907 when it was formed as a village library. The ‘District Library’ was organized in 1993 when the Township and Village of Shelby joined together and a llibrary millage for 1.5 mills was passed by voters of the ‘district’ in 1994. The library also provides services to the residents of Benona, Claybanks, Ferry, Grant and Otto Township sthrough annual contracts. In 2002 the voters in Grant Township approved .25 mills for library service for four years. Benona, Claybanks, Ferry and Otto townships pay varied amounts to the library from their general funds.
The library provides several outreach services through a small ‘branch’ library in the Rothbury Village Hall.
