SERVICE AREA
Shelby
Area District Library's service area
includes
a population of 11,192 residents of southern Oceana County. The
library has a long history dating back to 1907 when it was formed
as a village library. The ‘District Library’ was organized
in 1993 when the Township and Villageof
Shelbyjoined
together and library millage for 1.5 mills was passed by voters
of the ‘district’ in 1994. The library also provides
services to the residents of Benona, Claybanks, Ferry, Grant
and Otto Townshipsthrough
annual contracts. In 2002 the voters in Grant Townshipapproved
.25 mills for library service for four years. Benona,
Claybanks, Ferry and Otto townships pay varied amounts to the
library from their general funds.
The
library provides several outreach services through a small ‘branch’
library in the Rothbury Village
Hall.
